From withdrawal management through PHP, IOP, and aftercare, residents stay connected with the same clinicians, building trust and momentum that carries through recovery.
Heavy drinking is the most normalized addiction in America, which is part of why it is the most under-treated. The damage is real, measurable, and progressive. The data below is meant to give families navigating a loved one’s drinking a clear-eyed sense of what is at stake and why the right program matters.
Excessive drinking is linked to roughly 178,000 US deaths each year, one of the leading preventable causes of death.
It is causally linked to seven cancers including mouth, throat, esophagus, larynx, liver, colorectal, and female breast cancer.
Roughly half of all liver disease deaths are tied to heavy drinking. Pancreatitis, cardiovascular disease, and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome are also common consequences of heavy drinking.

Approximately 28.9 million US adults aged 18 and older meet criteria for alcoholism, yet only a small fraction receive any professional care.
Adults dealing with this disease are significantly more likely to experience depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Many of these conditions are masked by drinking and only surface once a person becomes sober.
Suicide risk in this group is multiple times higher than the general adult population, particularly when these co-occurring conditions go untreated.
Roughly 1 in 10 US children lives in a household with at least one parent dealing with substance abuse.
Children of parents struggling with this disease are approximately four times more likely to develop the same disease than children of parents without it.
Heavy drinking contributes to a large share of violent crime, domestic conflict, divorce, job loss, and financial collapse. Professional care is one of the few interventions with evidence of breaking the cycle.
Every level of care below runs under the same clinicians. No fragmented referrals. No starting over with a new provider when you step down. Pick where you are right now, or call us and we will help you figure out the clinical fit.
Detoxification, the physician-led stabilization for residents coming off heavy or chronic drinking. Withdrawal carries real medical risk including seizures and delirium tremens, which is why this stage is never optional and never done alone. Medications are tailored, monitoring is continuous, and reassurance is built into every shift.
Structured residential care in our 68-bed Cedar Rapids campus with daily one-on-one work, group sessions, clinical support, and wellness programming. Stays follow thirty, sixty, or ninety-day pathways depending on what your recovery actually requires. This is where most clients begin once stabilized.
The bridge between residential care and outpatient services. Four to eight hours of structured programming daily with continued clinical work, while clients return to a sober living environment each evening. Builds confidence in real-world coping while keeping the clinicians close.
Structured outpatient services three days per week, nine to twenty hours of programming including group and individual sessions. Designed for clients returning to work, school, or family while staying actively engaged in their recovery.
The long-term work that begins from the first hour of admission and continues for as long as our community members need it. Continued clinical work, recovery community programming, peer support, medication management, our alumni and aftercare partners, and a clear plan for protecting the future you have rebuilt and the life you want to protect.
The restored Higley Mansion is the foundation of the experience here. Comfortable, professional, and designed for focus during one of the most important chapters of someone’s life. Come inside.

Our admissions line is open 24 hours, every single shift. There is no waiting list, we protect your privacy on every call, and our staff verifies your benefits and verifies eligibility for a confidential conversation.
Medication-Assisted Treatment is one part of a complete plan, not the plan itself. For alcohol use disorder treatment specifically, our medical clinicians focus on Vivitrol, the most clinically supported medication for sustained sobriety. We evaluate fit during intake and continue evaluating throughout your care.
Extended-Release Naltrexone
A monthly injection used to block the rewarding effects in the brain and reduces cravings. Started after withdrawal management is complete, never during. Vivitrol is one of the most studied medications for relapse prevention in this disease and is included as part of an integrated care plan when clinically appropriate.
Our medical team determines whether Vivitrol is right for you based on your history, your physical wellbeing, and your recovery goals. It is offered as a treatment option, never required, and always paired with clinical work and structured support.
Depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and trauma often surface once drinking stops. Treating them at the same time, with one care team. Learn more on our dual diagnosis page.

Care begins with stabilization through physician-led withdrawal management. Once medically cleared, you move into inpatient care with one-on-one sessions, group work, dedicated clinical support, and daily wellness. You step down through PHP, IOP, and outpatient under the same clinical team. No fragmented referrals.
Research shows that structured programs combining withdrawal management, residential care, and aftercare produce meaningfully better outcomes than attempting to recover alone. Continuity of care, integrated mental health support when indicated, and active engagement in aftercare are the strongest predictors of long term recovery.
